I love this site! I lived in Lockport till I was 10, then Thibodaux till I was 13. My dad got a promotion and moved us to Baton Rouge. Talk about a culture shock, caaww, cher! Lol. Now I live near Gonzales. I will always remember all of the good times and great people, but my fondest memories are of the vacations we took on Grand Isle. We had so much fun crabbing in the surf, and trying to catch specs and 'rat' reds. Many times, I can remember that the only thing that was biting was the mosquitos. And I have seen many for communities larger than Lafourche Parish. My husband has been offered a job in this area, so I went to the Internet to find out more about the community I will probably soon be moving to. Your site was informative, enjoyable, and very friendly. If this web-site is a reflection of the community and the people it represents, then I am greatly looking forward to relocating to Southern Louisiana. After leaving Lockport I lived in Dallas TX for 6 years then Los Angeles for 9 years, now back in TX. Graduated CLHS in 1982. Traveled a lot, but Lockport is still home. Nothing like it. Great site and guest book. Thanks Aaron <aaron-in-tx@att.net> Irving, TX USA - Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 00:56:27 (EDT) Stumbled onto site by accident, but I'm glad I did. Great site. Monica Gautreaux Loupe <mloupe@tricomarine.com> Lockport, LA USA - Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at 12:44:41 (EDT) Learned about your web site from my sister. I was born and raised on Bayou Lafourche in Galliano. Left at 18 when I graduated from SLHS in 1969 to attend Nicholls. Met my husband there and married and moved to Morgan City. Left Louisiana in 1986 when the oilfield died and moved to Spartanburg, SC. I love the upstate with the mountains nearby but I get lonesome for the bayou. Your site reminded me of those long ago summers in Grand Isle. I had several aunts and uncles who lived there year round as well as had summer camps. There's nothing like crabbing off the surf and coming back to the camp and boiling them. Or catching the trawlers coming in and getting fresh soft shell crabs right off the boats. I miss the seafood most of all. Rosetta Guilbeau Kohara <RKohara@aol.com> Spartanburg, SC USA - Friday, July 13, 2001 at 16:36:04 (EDT) What a wonderful surprise. I was born and raised in Galliano, moved to Thibodaux after graduating from South Lafourched in 1971, then moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1986. I miss the bayou, especially the crawfish. It was a great place to grow up and my memories of Grand Isle and the summers there will live in my heart forever. I don't get to visit much but I still have lots of aunts, uncles and cousins still living on the "bayou". I can now visit and enjoy my memories of Lafourche in this site. Keep up the good work. Donna M. Guilbeau <dguilbeau@sc.rr.com> Myrtle Beach, SC USA - Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at 20:59:13 (EDT) Thanks for the memories. Your site reminds me of trips to Grand Isle with my grandparents when I was a kid in the 50s/early 60s. They lived in Houma and had a camp on Grand Isle. We fished in the bay and crabbed off the old bridge. We always stopped at Dufrene's Bakery and the Hubba Hubba store. Unfortunately, both places are now closed down. Going back there always revives my spirit! love this website. Terri Rogers Zeller <terrizeller@yahoo.com> Paulina, LA USA - Sunday, February 06, 2000 at 11:49:36 (EST) I guess I wont have any thanks for the last comments-questions... If it can cause some reflection. I think Cajuns have been deprived twice:first of their land in 1755, second of their language in Louisiana when French was banned at schoool and children taught to be ashamed of their language. PB <marquette@mail.dotcom.fr> Montreal, Canada - Wednesday, February 02, 2000 at 14:33:20 (EST) I would like to know :is there places still speaking French or Cajun French in your area of Louisiana. An odd question, maybe... Is being Cajun knowing some recipes and the folk danses? Or is there something else in Cajun culture? PB <marquette@mail.dotcom.fr> Montreal, Canada - Wednesday, February 02, 2000 at 12:30:11 (EST) wonderful stuff. keep up the good work. lynn navarre <lynn_1953nav@yahoo.com> thibodaux, la USA - Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at 14:10:46 (EST) I was raised in Cut Off and Galliano. It's nice to be able to touch base close to home. I was raised on this bayou, swam in it, paddled pirouges in it, and fished in it. I'm proud of the memories I have of being raised on it. I'll keep coming back. becky roberts <ciera@gbso.net> palatka, fl USA - Thursday, December 30, 1999 at 16:58:17 (EST) I was impressed with what the creators and planners of this site have done to enable our Lafourche culture and heritage to be exposed throughout the internet and throughout the world. Thanks for all of your work, time and energy. The history of this parish is close to my family and is especialy close to myself because of the memories I had growing up in the political arena. Keep up the good work!!!
